Mobile Friendly Web Client - Updates!

Thanks for all your feedback! The most frequent suggestions we received for the web client were for an improved mobile experience on Android and iOS, and we are happy to announce that we just released a big update that makes the web client much more mobile-friendly!

You can now choose between a mobile UI in portrait mode (with a nifty Menu button for map shortcuts, settings, commands and more) and the full-fat Furcadia UI (with tweaks to make it more usable on a touch screen). We definitely recommend portrait orientation for using the web client on your phone!

The newly added settings allow you to change between different levels of animations. You can also use this mobile interface in your desktop web browser as well by opening the web client in a new window and making that window more narrow. Try it out, it looks great!

Android and iOS users can make the web client behave much like a native app by using "Add To Home Screen" in Safari (iOS) or Chrome (Android). You can then launch the web client just like a native app by tapping the icon. No need to launch the browser again.

On mobile devices, you can now long-press on a character to pull up a context menu (just like right-clicking in the regular Furcadia client).

You can try out the web/mobile client at https://play.furcadia.com. Just use your regular Furcadia account to log in!

See demo videos here (iOS) and here (Android)!

Below is the full change log with all the changes. This is only an initial release. We will be adding more features and tweaks in the upcoming weeks. Please help us test this web/mobile client and let us know if you encounter any issues. When reporting bugs, please tell us about your device and the browser you're using. We primarily support Safari and Chrome at the moment, but the web client will work in Mobile Firefox also, though there may be some smaller usability issues.

Surf's up! It's time to party at Rameen!

It's time for a totally rad Beach Bash!

That sun beating down is still HOT HOT HOT; it's time to soak up the rays and waves in the Rameen Festival!

Our annual end-of-Summer party in honor of Prime Jemmion is now in full swing, so come join the fun! Don't forget to drop by Digo Market to score some fintastic seasonal avatars too!

  • Grab a guitar and unleash your inner rockstar on one of the Furcadia Guitar Masters stages

  • Want to go for a spin? Hop aboard one of the various critters of the carousel
  • Jump on a surfboard and catch a gnarly wave

  • And so much more!

There is so much to see and do! The tiki-torches, bonfires, and lanterns scattered across the island playground mean the party rolls on all night long.

Pixels' Underwater World

There will be a series of parrots around the dream, that spout seemingly-random information. Down at the docks, there will be a quiz booth. When you enter it, you will be presented with questions that the parrot asked -- if you get a certain amount right, you will be able to enter the Pixels' Underwater World!

Web Client Updates

Below is a list of recent changes to the Furcadia web client. The web client is freely available to all players at https://play.furcadia.com. It supports desktop computers and most mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. For more real-time coverage of updates for the web client, please follow our Twitter or Facebook accounts.

  • Walking animations have been fixed and work correctly now.
  • Hopping avatars (Froggen, Rabbit, etc) now have their proper hopping animation!
  • It is now possible to log into the web client with a newly created account/character without needing to first log into Furcadia with the desktop client. This allows new players to use the web client without needing to download anything.
  • Animations can now be properly toggled (off, normal, full) in Windows, Mac, and Linux browsers by pressing the F11 key.
  • Web client update: Added smiley support to emote detection. For example, typing ":3" will now send ":3" instead of "Kitasu3".
  • We've added support for the ignore command! This is a preliminary implementation of this functionality. For now, your ignore list will be stored locally in your device's browser. Later on, it will be saved directly on the server.
  • Added a fix to prevent the chat input from stealing focus when the player presses Ctrl, Shift or Alt. You can now copy text from the log without the input field going "NOPE!".
  • The bold, italic, and underline buttons&hotkeys now work as expected.
  • Updated textbox to use rich formatting (most formatting is stripped during sending).
  • The client now saves the height of its main chat input between sessions.
  • Fixed bug with the smiley selector duplicating text in the chat input.
  • Resolved minor discrepancy between how desktop #urcadia vs. how the webclient handles emotes in whispers.
  • Made chat tab blink if chat messages arrive while chat is not visible.
  • Changed favicon to Furcadia icon.
  • Added favicon notification dot: now you can see when you have unread chat messages or whispers, even if you're on another tab!
  • We implemented basic AFK support (uses only default settings). No auto-AFK yet, but it'll come!
  • Fixed a bug where whispers from the main chat (i.e., using / or /%%) were getting cut off after the first space.
  • Changed the page title to say Web Client.
  • Implemented the Help, Magic, and DigoMarket buttons.
  • Fixed snapdragon portrait and specitag display.

Silky, sassy, and full of fluff in all the right ways, say hello to the Purrsian!

The presale is available for only a limited time and comes with an exclusive FOR LIFE desctag, so be sure to scoop one up before time runs out! Meow!

Server Maintenance (August 12)

Just a quick heads-up that we'll perform server maintenance involving our database drive on August 12. The Furcadia server as well as the web site will be unavailable during this time. Maintenance will begin at approximately 2:00 PM FST and take at least one hour. For status updates during maintenance, please check our Twitter.

Update: We received new word from our hosting company concerning the hardware maintenance later today: They have extended the maintenance window, so the downtime will likely exceed the original estimate of one hour. We expect multiple hours of server downtime.

What's your Sign?

Astrology is a very popular topic worldwide, and while we have celebrated the Chinese Zodiac here in Furcadia for many years, it's time the Tropical Zodiac got some much-deserved love too!

The zodiac is the belt of constellations that the Sun, Moon, and planets move through on their yearly journey across the sky. Ancient astrologers noted the patterns of the movements of these constellations and developed a system representing 12 of them to span a year based on the seasons, beginning with Aries on the Spring Equinox.

So starting today on the Summer Equinox you'll be able to find the first in our newest series of collectible Zodiac desctags -- Cancer!

These tags will be available individually or as part of a fun Zodiac bundle featuring an avatar and consumables based on the current sign, and last an entire year in your description! Each sign has it's own corresponding element -- air, water, earth, fire -- and accompanying planet that has been beautifully captured in these desctags created by Rat the Unloved. Wear your sign proudly!

Each Zodiac tag will be released on it's corresponding start date as the year progresses, so keep an eye on Digo Market for yours to arrive!
